West End Revitalization to Host Community Discussion on Centennial Corridor Project
The future of the Centennial Bridge corridor could shape the West End and surrounding neighborhoods for generations. That’s why West End Revitalization (WER) is strongly encouraging residents, businesses, and community stakeholders to attend an upcoming community discussion and make their voices heard before the June 3 public comment deadline.
Decisions connected to this project could impact neighborhood connectivity, traffic patterns, local businesses, property impacts, pedestrian access, and the future development of the area. West End Revitalization believes it is critical that West End residents and community members understand what is being proposed and participate in the public process while decisions are still being made.
The US 67 (Centennial Bridge) Corridor Project, led by the Illinois and Iowa Departments of Transportation, is evaluating long-term improvements intended to improve safety, mobility, and reliability between Rock Island and Davenport. Two remaining bridge replacement alternatives are currently under consideration.
According to project materials, the remaining alternatives include:
Alternative E2
Replaces the bridge just west of the current structure
Maintains current travel patterns and downtown connectivity
Minimizes impacts to surrounding neighborhoods
Allows the existing bridge to remain open during construction
Alternative E7
Shifts the bridge connection to 11th Street in Rock Island and Marquette Street in Davenport
Changes traffic flow and regional connectivity
May create greater impacts to nearby homes, businesses, and neighborhoods
Allows the existing bridge to remain open during construction
At this stage in the process, public feedback matters. Community comments submitted before June 3, 2026 will become part of the official project record and help inform future decisions.
West End Revitalization is hosting this discussion to help residents better understand:
What is currently being proposed
What remains uncertain
How each alternative could affect the West End
What questions and concerns community members are raising
How residents can submit comments and participate in the process
West End Revitalization believes major neighborhood decisions work best when residents are informed early and have meaningful opportunities to shape outcomes. Whether you support, oppose, or simply want to better understand the project, your participation is important.
